Eric Doyle is the owner of Consult Crux, where he supports businesses with digital B2B

influence, presentation skills and business storytelling. As well as running Crux, Eric has

been a keynote speaker, event host and panel moderator for nearly seven years. He is a real

natural when it comes to communication and with a great sense of humour.

In fact, At The Range with Finance Caddie exists because of a conversation on LinkedIn,

when Scott Paton, aka Finance Caddie, asked Eric to look out his clubs and invited him to

the golf range to catch up. Eric’s response was: “Deal! There’s a strong angle there a theme

for Finance Caddie, taking businesspeople out to the driving range and reporting on what the

talk was about, even recording it.”

The Long Journey North

Eric has built his career around helping businesses move forward with confidence. Starting

as a milk delivery boy in Erskine, then as an apprentice and time-served electrician at

Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick, he later headed to see the sea the North Sea as an Offshore rig

electrician. He then moved back onshore into HSEQ, before a surprise opportunity to retrain

in sales and marketing under the wing of his greatest mentor, Tony Henderson, at IMR. That

experience laid the foundation for a very successful career holding senior director roles in

the energy sector, until 2019, when Eric decided the time was right to control his own

destiny.

Beyond Business: Why Golf Still Matters

Away from business, golf offers Eric a different kind of challenge: one that rewards patience,

discipline and good decision-making. Much like business, the game is about reading the

situation, choosing the right approach and staying composed when conditions change.

Eric’s relationship with golf differs from many golfers. There is no doubt that he loves the

game he has had golf lessons, been on several golf holidays and played some exceptional

courses, including the home of golf, St Andrews Old Course, but golf remains a part-time

relationship, for now: a few rounds a year are enough to keep Eric content.

FYI - He’s got the skills hitting yardages on demand when we were messing about off

camera including 156 yards with a driver first time, that was just crazy! (try doing that)
